..........Darryl is originally from Valley, Alabama and graduated from Valley High School having held leadership positions in many organizations, including Key Club, lettered in football, was included in the Senior Hall of Fame and Honor Society, edited and illustrated the newspaper, and represented the area at the National Junior Achievement conference in Indiana all four years. During those years he earned income in construction, textiles, concrete and electrical work, plus ran his own sign painting company.
..........Before achieving his BFA with BVD from Auburn University, he was a founder/president of Auburn Farm House Fraternity, recognized for years as the best fraternity on campus and nationally in the top five of all chapters of all fraternities in the USA. He lettered in Track and Field, eventually earning a scholarship. For his thesis he made a live action/animated safety film for West Point Manufacturing Textile Company (later West Point Stevens) that was used for years and earned the first A Commended in the Auburn Art program. Also, he was a member of Circle K.
..........After college Darryl was hired as an artist with Benson Printing in Nashville, Tennessee, and was promoted to Art Director. There he worked on a variety of projects across the United States.
Called in a new direction, Darryl returned to the educational circles, earning his Master of Divinity degree from Wake Forest's Theological Seminary. During that period, he served three congregations and established an area Recycle Paper Recycle People program that funded assistance for people with utility needs. Also, he served on a mission to Guatemala following a devastating earth quake.
..........In 1979, Darryl came to Alamance County to serve Historic Providence Christian Church in Graham for 41 years. He served as a member of the Graham Jaycees. He helped develop a local CROP Walk into one of the largest in the nation, including riding his bicycle to Alabama to garner support and interest. He arranged, coordinated, and assisted Director Frank Frost in producing a local CROP film that was used nationally and received a Golden Cine Award. Subsequently, he was recognized by the Governor. He helped develop and lead a Community Solar Workshop hands on program, including writing a Solar manual. That led to helping establish Allied Churches of Alamance County and the writing of the proposal for initial funding for this year-round program that includes a shelter, kitchen, and crisis department. During that time, he assisted in the development of the local mediation program for the court system.
For many years Darryl has served Graham as a firefighter and as a Chaplain. He was Firefighter of the Year in 2004 and responded to the most calls for several years (averaging between 300 to 367 calls per year). Darryl also set up and organized a burned-out victim's closet at the fire station for many years.
..........He has also assisted the Heart Association, Graham Historical Society, the local Library Committee, and other civic groups. Around December, he puts on an "extra 100 pounds" plus a red suit and can be seen in places like the parade, museums, and other venues. He led efforts to strengthen the Lions Club presence in Graham leading to blending Burlington and Graham into a new Alamance County Lions Club to help those with visual and hearing impairments, along with other community needs.
..........Darryl has also connected Alamance County to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia through another Daryl R. Peebles. They produced and performed a show called "The Darryl, Daryl, and No Larry Show: Bringing the World Together Through the Magic of Love and Laughter!" They have been interviewed all over the world and on shows such as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." Both these gentlemen have been entertaining for over a half century and their lives have over 43 aspects that are identical, including writing, TV commercials, singing, and much more.
..........As pastor and only staff person for Providence Church, Darryl led the congregation to reach out in many different aspects of the community and beyond for 41 years. From May of 2000 to 2013, he led the congregation into total upgrades of the facilities and site, designed and led ten major celebrations of the many aspects of our community that have their roots at this historical site celebrating the Sestercentennial year for Providence (250 years), and captured it all in a movie for future generations. In over 47 years of ministry, Darryl has counseled hundreds of people, officiated weddings of various styles, settings, and locations, entertained at various wedding receptions using magic and humor to enhance the meaning of love, officiated hundreds of funerals, and delivered thousands of sermons.
..........Darryl has spoken on a variety of subjects in multitudes of venues from large corporate to smaller private events, while combining Tantalizing Magic, Top Class Comedy, and Terrific Motivation to bring inspiration into people's lives. Also, he has appeared on various settings in the international media community. His experience is broad, diversified, and professional, but down-to-earth and personal. Appearing as a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is just one of the many venues where Darryl has appeared. In 2017 Darryl designed and organized a journey to 4 continents, 36 cities, and 12 nations in 63 days making over 156 presentations of gratitude, recognition, and entertaining inspiration for the service that takes place there daily. He discovered that people are (indeed) very much alike around the globe and that the common thread of their willingness to serve others was evident all along the way. His experience in the Lions Club, Fire Service, Church Work, and Civic Roles has shown him the value of people who get up each day and serve their communities. Connecting these local agencies to their counterparts globally uncovered beautiful people and stories.
